The Scottish Trauma Audit Group (STAG) was set up in 1991 to audit the management of seriously injured patients in Scotland. It achieved its aims and stopped collecting trauma data in 2002. Since 2002, the team has worked on a range of national audit projects and then in January 2011 recommenced an audit of the management of trauma patients.

Annual reports are available on the STAG website (www.stag.scot.nhs.uk) and 2013 and 2014 data will be published on the 27th October 2015.

STAG is part of the Scottish Healthcare Audit Team (SHA) which is within the Public Health and Intelligence Strategic Business Unit of National Services Scotland.

SHA conducts a range of audits within clinical priority areas such as: Emergency Medicine (STAG), Critical Care (SICSAG), Stroke (SSCA), Orthopaedic surgery (MSk) and MS (MS Registry).

STAG has Local Audit Co-ordinators in all the major hospitals and the audit will extend to all hospitals with an Emergency Department in 2016/17. Our organisational structure enables us to undertake high quality, prospective clinical audit and provides a useful national clinical audit model to enable this process to occur in a standardised, reliable manner. STAG has an established infrastructure of Regional and Local Audit Co-ordinators with a track record of regular reporting of current data, publication in peer review journals and the provision of bespoke information requests.
